Juventus v Sampdoria – Goals: Juve 2-1 Sampdori
The Turin giants are hoping to continue their impressive start to the Serie A campaign with a comfortable 2-0 victory at Turin on Saturday.
It was a much different match to the previous encounter in the Turin derby, as the two sides played out a stalemate at the break.
Juve’s first shot of the first half came off a cross from Stephan El Shaarawy, who was shown a straight red card.
Sampdori’s first attempt on goal came on 55 minutes when Stefan Nkakola got a hand to a loose ball and had the ball turned away by his defender.
It looked like it was going to be a draw, with a shot from Gianluca Di Marzio and a deflected shot from the right from Simone Rizzo finding the bottom corner.
But Juve made sure of victory by levelling things up in the 54th minute when Alessandro Del Piero sent in a cross for Alessandro Di Marzo, who scored the winner from a tight angle to put Juve ahead at the interval.
Sambos were unable to equalise on the hour mark, with their goalkeeper Giuseppe Pizzi heading over after he was fouled by Andrea Barzagli.
However, the visitors were able to claw back into the game with the equaliser just five minutes later, when Di Marze missed a corner and went down with a knock.
Samps striker Simone Pepe got himself into the right place to tap in from close range, but it was a poor goal from a side that have conceded nine goals in their last five Serie A games.
It’s a huge step forward for Sampdora, who are now unbeaten in their past seven matches.
Samantha Cole and Alessandro Diamanti were also involved for the hosts, who have won three straight.
Pizzi had a penalty appeal waved away in the 73rd minute when he tried to get away from Giuseppino Giammari and it went out to his right, with the referee handing the spot-kick to the referee.
Juventus are now just three points off the top of the table, with Sampdor now five points behind them and only four points behind the leaders Inter.
